History

The Old Town School of Folk Music is the largest employer of music instructors in the city of Chicago. The school was founded in 1957 by Frank Martin and Win Stracke. The school offers classes in music theory, ear training, and performance, as well as private lessons. The Old Town School of Folk Music is also a music venue, hosting over 700 concerts each year.

Admission and Fees

Admission

Most of our events are free and open to the public. Concerts in the main Auditorium generally have a $10 suggested donation, while shows in Gordon Tech High School and Room 43 have a $5 suggested donation. Special events and workshops vary in price; please check the event listing for more information.

All donations go to support the artists and help us keep our programming affordable and accessible to everyone. We rely on your generosity!

Fees

Adults (18+)
Most classes are $420 for the entire session.
Some performance ensembles and some private lessons are $545.
A few select ensembles and some private lessons are $665.

Seniors (65+), Students (with valid ID), and Children (17 & under) receive a 10% discount on the above prices.

Active Duty Military, Veterans, and their families receive a 10% discount on the above prices.
