History of the Old Town School of Folk Music

The Old Town School of Folk Music is a music school in Chicago, Illinois, United States. It was founded in 1957 by Win Stracke and Frank Hamilton. The school offers classes in many musical styles, including folk, blues, gospel, Celtic, old-time music, flamenco guitar, world music, and early music. It also rents space for performances, including concerts, workshops and educational presentations.

The Old Town School of Folk Music’s Summer Camp is a unique educational experience for kids ages 6-16. Campers spend their days learning about and playing music, and their nights sleeping in cozy cabins at the beautiful Lake Geneva campus.

Each morning starts with a group lesson, where campers learn about a different musical style. After lunch, it’s time for band practice, where campers get to put their new skills to use in a fun and supportive environment. Evenings are filled with jam sessions, talent shows, and bonfires.

Prices and Discounts

Old Town School of Folk Music Summer Camp provides an opportunity for kids aged 6-17 to learn about and experience music in a fun and supportive environment. We have a variety of pricing options and discounts available to make our camp affordable for everyone.

Full-time campers ( attending all five days of camp ) can choose between our Early Bird pricing ( $325 per camper ), or our standard pricing ( $350 per camper ). If you register two or more full-time campers, you will receive a 10% discount on your total camp fee.

We also offer a partial attendance option for those who can’t commit to a full week of camp. Part-time campers can attend any three days of their choice for a reduced price of $275. Part-time campers are also eligible for a 10% group discount if they are registering with two or more friends.
