Christine is lulled into a false sense of security by the Phantom’s music and becomes his captive. Raoul, her childhood sweetheart, tries to rescue her but ends up getting caught in the Phantom’s trap himself.
The novel has been adapted into numerous films, most notably Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical version, which debuted on Broadway in 1988.
