With a new year comes a new opportunity to find the next big thing in music. Here are some psychedelic rock bands to keep an eye on in 2021.

The Growlers

The Growlers are a psychedelic rock band from Los Angeles, California. The band was founded in 2006 by singer-songwriter Brooks Nielsen and guitarist Matthew Switzky. The band’s music is based on a mix of 60s psychedelia, surf rock and garage rock, with a thematic focus on theFAKE ARTICLE ocean, beach life, love and marijuana. They have released seven studio albums, two live albums and one compilation album.

Their debut album Are You in or Out? was released in 2009 to critical acclaim. The album was included in NME’s “50 Greatest Albums of the Decade” list. Their second album Hot Tropics was released in 2010 and their third album Hung at Heart was released in 2013 to further critical acclaim. The band’s fourth album Chinese Fountain was released in 2014 and their fifth album City Club was released in 2016. Their most recent album Natural Affair was released in 2019.

The Growlers have been praised for their unique sound and eclectic influences. They have been compared to such diverse artists as The Beach Boys, The Grateful Dead, Nirvana, Neil Young and Iggy Pop.

Their story

Formed in Orange County, California, The Growlers have been making waves in the music industry since their formation in 2006. With a sound that is often described as a mix of psychedelic rock and surf pop, the band has developed a loyal following over the years and shows no signs of slowing down.

The Growlers got their start when mates Brooks Nielsen and Matt Taylor decided to start making music together. Inspired by the local punk and garage rock scenes, the duo began writing and recording their own songs, eventually self-releasing their debut album Are You in or Out? in 2009.

Since then, The Growlers have released six more albums, including 2016’s City Club, which was produced by The Strokes’ Julian Casablancas. The band has also toured extensively, both as headliners and support act for bigger artists like Arctic Monkeys, Queens of the Stone Age, and The Pixies.

With a unique sound and an ever-growing fan base, The Growlers are definitely one of the psychedelic rock bands to watch in 2021.

Their sound

The Black Angels create a sound that is both old and new; a perfect concoction of 60s psychedelia mixed with a modern day edge. With hypnotic riffs, droning bass lines and pounding drums, their music transports the listener to a time when music was all about taking risks and pushing boundaries.

The Raveonettes – formed in 2001 by Sune Rose Wagner on guitar and sharpshooter Sharin Foo on bass (who also share lead vocals) – take their name from the 1958 Dion hit “The Wanderer.” A handful of singles (and EP) releases preceded their proper full-length debut, Chain Gang of Love, in 2003. 2005 saw the release of Pretty in Black, an album that saw them experimenting with different sounds and production techniques while still remaining true to their strong pop songwriting skills.
