Introduction

The Jake Heggie and Terrence McNally opera, Dead Man Walking, will make its Shepherd School of Music debut Thursday, Oct. 29, in Alice Pratt Brown Hall. Set against the backdrop of the Louisiana State Penitentiary, Dead Man Walking follows the story of a convicted murderer on death row and the nun who befriends him.

The Shepherd School of Music Opera is excited to announce that tickets are now on sale for their upcoming production of Puccini’s “La Bohème.” The show will run from April 5-7 in Duncan Hall.

This timeless story of young love and lost innocence has captivated audiences around the world for over a century. Set amidst the poverty and romance of Paris’ Latin Quarter, “La Bohème” follows a group of young bohemians as they navigate love, loss, and friendship. From the iconic “Musetta’s Waltz” to the heart-wrenching “Your Tiny Hand is Frozen,” Puccini’s music paints a vivid picture of life in the city of lights.

The Shepherd School Opera’s production of “La Bohème” will feature a cast of rising stars from the conservatory, including sopranos Jennifer Kanady and Emilyrimbaud > as Mimì, mezzo-soprano Abigail Mitchell as Musetta, tenor Andrew Bogert as Rodolfo, baritone Gage johnson as Marcello, and bass-baritone Kofi Dennis as Colline. The production will be conducted by Maestro Timothy Myers and directed by James Robinson.

The Shepherd School of Music will present three fully-staged operas this spring. “The Consul,” “The Telephone,” and “Dido and Aeneas” will be performed in Stude Concert Hall March 23-25 and March 30-April 1. All performances are at 7:30 p.m., and both “The Consul” and “Dido and Aeneas” will be sung in English.
