This year’s Soul Train Music Awards were held last night, and the big winner in the rap category was J. Cole for his album ‘4 Your Eyez Only.’

Outkast – “Stankonia”

It was announced today that Outkast’s “Stankonia” has won the award for Best Rap Album at the Soul Train Music Awards. The album, which was released in October of 2000, topped the Billboard 200 chart and has been certified 4x platinum by the RIAA.

Eminem – “The Marshall Mathers LP”

The Marshall Mathers LP is the third studio album by American rapper Eminem. It was released on May 23, 2000, by Aftermath Entertainment, Interscope Records, and Eminem’s newly founded label, Shady Records in the United States, and on September 11, 2000, by Polydor Records in the United Kingdom. The album featured more lyrical themes than his previous albums. It also debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart and has been certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Nelly – “Country Grammar”

Nelly’s debut album, “Country Grammar,” was released in 2000 and immediately found success, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts. The album featured the hit singles “Country Grammar (Hot Shit)” and “Ride wit Me,” both of which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. “Country Grammar” would go on to be certified diamond by the RIAA, signifying sales of over 10 million copies in the United States.

Jay-Z – “The Blueprint”

Released in September 2001, “The Blueprint” was Jay-Z’s sixth studio album and is widely considered one of his best. The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 and was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2002 Grammy Awards. “The Blueprint” features some of Jay-Z’s most popular songs, including “Izzo (H.O.V.A.),” “Girls, Girls, Girls,” and “Jigga That Nigga.”

Outkast – “Speakerboxxx/The Love Below”

Outkast’s “Speakerboxxx/The Love Below” was released on September 23, 2003 and is the duo’s fifth studio album. It features 26 tracks and won the Soul Train Music Award for Best Rap Album in 2004.
