2021 Soul Train Music Awards Winners

The 2021 Soul Train Music Awards were held on Sunday, and the winners have been announced! Here’s a complete list of the winners, including best new artist, best R&B song, and best album.

Best New Artist

The 2021 Soul Train Music Awards were held on November 28, 2020, recognizing the best in soul, R&B, and hip hop music from the previous year. The ceremony was held virtually for the first time in its history due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The event was hosted by Amanda Seales. The nominees for Best New Artist were:

winner: Yung Baby Tate

Best New Artist
The winner of this award is Yung Baby Tate.

Yung Baby Tate is a rapper and singer from Atlanta, Georgia. She first gained attention with her song “I Am” in 2018. She has released two albums, “I Am” and “The Kids Are Alright”, both of which have been well-received by critics.

runner up: Nasty C

Nasty C is a South African rapper and songwriter who rose to fame with his debut mixtape, “One Kid a Thousand Coffins,” in 2012. He has since released two studio albums, “Bad Hair Extensions” and “Strings and Bling,” both of which have been well-received by critics. Nasty C was nominated for Best New Artist at the 2021 Soul Train Music Awards, but lost to singer-songwriter Arin Ray.

Song of the Year

It’s official, the 2021 Soul Train Music Awards Song of the Year goes to “Long Live” by Jhené Aiko! The moving and empowering song was released back in August 2020 as part of Aiko’s third studio album, Chilombo. Aiko was up against some stiff competition in this category, with other nominees including Beyoncé, Bruno Mars, Megan Thee Stallion, and Roddy Ricch.

winner: “Body” – Megan Thee Stallion ft. Wiz Khalifa

The song “Body” was released as a single by Megan Thee Stallion on October 2, 2020. The song peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and is Megan’s second number-one single on the chart. On January 26, 2021, the song won the award for Song of the Year at the 2021 Soul Train Music Awards.

runner up: “Good Days” – SZA

Although she didn’t take home the top prize, SZA still had a great night at the Soul Train Music Awards, taking home two awards, including Best R&B/Soul Female Artist. “Good Days” was nominated for two awards, including Song of the Year.

Album/Mixtape of the Year

winner: “Good Days” – SZA

The 20th annual Soul Train Music Awards were held on November 29, 2020, and broadcast on BET Her. The show was hosted by Tisha Campbell. SZA won the award for Album/Mixtape of the Year for her album “Good Days”.

runner up: “Nasty” – Nasty C

Nasty C released his debut album “Bad Hair Extensions” in 2016. In 2021, he was nominated for Album/Mixtape of the Year at the Soul Train Music Awards for his mixtape “Nasty.” “Nasty” was produced by Daps and featuring Migos, on the track “Allow.”

Record of the Year

Record of the Year is awarded to the performer and the production team of a single song.

winner: “Body” – Megan Thee Stallion ft. Wiz Khalifa

The Soul Train Music Awards is an annual music awards show that honors the best in black music and entertainment. It was established in 1987 by Don Cornelius, the creator of the long-running television show Soul Train.

This year, the award for Record of the Year went to “Body” by Megan Thee Stallion ft. Wiz Khalifa. This steamy track features Megan Thee Stallion at her raunchiest, proclaiming her pleasure loudly and proudly over a bouncy, bass-heavy production. Wiz Khalifa adds a touch of levity with his verse, which brings some much-needed humor to the track.

runner up: “Good Days” – SZA

The songstress took home two awards at the 2021 Soul Train Music Awards. SZA’s “Good Days” was nominated for three awards, including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best R&B Performance. Although she didn’t win Record or Song of the Year, she did take home the award for Best R&B Performance.

Best Dance Performance

The Soul Train Music Awards is an annual music awards show that honors the best in African American music. The show was established in 1987 by Don Cornelius, and it is now owned and produced by BET Networks. This year’s show was hosted by Alicia Keys and featured performances by music’s biggest stars.
