The Fuzz FM’s early years

The Fuzz FM was set up in 2006 by Dave Trumfio and Jim Thirlwell. The pair had previously worked together at Chicago independent record label Wax Trax! Records, where they had helped to sign and promote artists such as Ministry, Front 242, My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult and Revolting Cocks.

Following the demise of Wax Trax! in 2001, Trumfio and Thirlwell decided to set up their own radio station which would play the kind of music they loved – psychedelia, stoner rock, krautrock and experimental music.

The Fuzz FM initially broadcast on Chicago’s WLUW 88.7FM before moving online in 2007. The station has attracted a loyal following over the years, with listeners tuning in from all over the world to hear its eclectic mix of music.

In 2016, The Fuzz FM celebrated its 10th anniversary with a special 24-hour broadcast featuring music from some of the biggest names in psychedelic/stoner rock, including A Place to Bury Strangers, Dead Meadow, Earthless and Sleep.
