It’s that time of year again! Time to reflect on the tracks that have gotten us through a tough year and look ahead to the music that will soundtrack our 2021. These are the top 10 electronic music tracks of 2020.

“In My Feelings” by Drake

“In My Feelings” is a song by Canadian rapper Drake from his fifth studio album Scorpion (2018). The song was written by Drake, assisted by BlaqNMild. It was released to rhythmic and contemporary hit radio on July 10, 2018, as the album’s fifth single. The track samples LaShawn Daniels and Static Major’s “Say You Will (2003)”, Ashanti’s “Foolish (2002)”, and City Girls’ “Act Up (2018)”.

Drake first previewed the track on episode eleven of his Beats 1 radio show, OVO Sound Radio, on June 29, 2018. The following day, he announced that Scorpion would be released on June 29. The artwork and tracklist were released on June 27. Upon release, “In My Feelings” received critical acclaim from music critics. Commercially, it reached number one in several countries including the US, Canada and UK; as well as number two in Australia and New Zealand. In the US, the song spent ten non-consecutive weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart—surpassing Despacito (2017) for most weeks at number one for a hip hop song—and became both Drake’s first solo number-one single on the Hot 100 and lead artist on a number one single since 2013; it also led to Drake breaking several streaming records. A dance challenge called the #InMyFeelingsChallenge or #DoTheShiggy challenge went viral upon the song’s release; it consists of individuals dancing alongside a moving car to the tune of the chorus.

The accompanying music video was released on August 2, 2018. Directed by Karena Evans, it features Drake dances in various locations around New Orleans while doing the Shiggy Challenge with various people including LaLa Anthony and Phylicia Rashād. The video won Best Hip-Hop Video at the MTV Video Music Awards.

“Sicko Mode” by Travis Scott

“Sicko Mode” is a song by American rapper Travis Scott, released as the second single from his third studio album, Astroworld (2018). The song features vocals from Drake and Swae Lee. It peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and became Scott’s first number-one single in the US as a lead artist. Internationally, it peaked within the top ten of several countries, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

“No Tears Left to Cry” is a song by American singer Ariana Grande from her fourth studio album, Sweetener (2018). It was released by Republic Records on April 20, 2018, as the lead single from the album. The song was written by Grande, Savan Kotecha, Peter Svensson, and its producers Max Martin and Shellback. “No Tears Left to Cry” is a trap-influenced pop and R&B song with a Roland TR-808 drum machine, house piano stabs, filtered bass and subtle strings. Lyrically, it finds Grande lamenting over a former lover but resolving to move forward.

Upon release, “No Tears Left to Cry” received acclaim from music critics, who praised its production as well as Grande’s vocal performance. The song peaked atop the charts in various countries including Australia, Canada, France, Malaysia and the United Kingdom; furthermore, it became Grande’s first number one on the US Billboard Hot 100. Accompanied by a vertical video directed by Dave Meyers, the official music video for “No Tears Left to Cry” was released on April 27, 2018. The clip features Grande dancing in confined spaces such as an elevator shaft and a revolving door. “Nice for What” is a song recorded by Canadian rapper Drake. It was released on April 6, 2018, through Young Money Entertainment and Cash Money Records. The song was produced by Murda Beatz with additional production by Cubeatz. The song is a throwback to 1990s hip hop and features a bouncy beat and piano loop. The track samples Lauryn Hill’s 1998 song “Ex-Factor”.

“Nice for What” debuted at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming Drake’s seventh US number-one single. The song also reached number one in Canada and the top 10 in Australia, Denmark, Ireland, New Zealand, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Internationally, “In My Feelings” peaked at number two in Australia and New Zealand, making it Drake’s sixth consecutive top-ten single in both countries; as well as peaking inside the top ten in several other countries including Canada, Denmark, France, Netherlands and Sweden.
