In this blog post, we countdown the top 10 electronic dance music tracks of all time. From Daft Punk to Skrillex, these are the songs that have defined the genre and gotten us moving on the dance floor.

In the late 1970s, a new form of electronic dance music emerged from the nightclubs of Europe. This new music, which came to be known as “electronic dance music” (EDM), was characterized by a heavy reliance on synthesizers and drum machines. It quickly gained popularity among young people in the United States and Europe, and by the early 1980s, it had become one of the most popular genres of music in the world.

Today, EDM is one of the most popular genres of music in the world, and its popularity shows no signs of waning. In fact, in recent years, EDM has experienced a resurgence in popularity, thanks in part to the rise of “EDM festivals” such as Tomorrowland and Ultra Music Festival.

Daft Punk- One More Time

“One More Time” is a song by French electronic music duo Daft Punk, first released as a single on 30 November 2000 and later included in the album Discovery. It is a French house song featuring elements of house and techno. The song is noted for its successful use of Auto-Tune on the vocals of Thomas Bangalter and Romanthony. It became Daft Punk’s breakthrough hit in many countries worldwide and peaked at number one in Germany, where it remains the duo’s only single to date to topping the chart. In 2001, the single was certified Gold in France for sales exceeding 500,000 copies.

The track was Commercial success world wide and peaked inside the top 10 in several countries, including Australia, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Italy, Netherlands New Zealand, Norway, Spain Sweden and Switzerland. In the United Kingdom, it peaked at number 2 on the UK Singles Chart making it Daft Punk’s highest-charting single on that chart until 2013 when “Get Lucky” topped the chart.

Swedish House Mafia- Don’t You Worry Child

This track, released in September of 2012, hit number one in the UK, Ireland, Finland, Denmark, and Belgium. “Don’t You Worry Child” was co-written by Steve Angello, Axwell, and Sebastian Ingrosso of Swedish House Mafia, and John Martin. The song samples “Messiah” by French musician Claude Vincent.

Calvin Harris- This Is What You Came For

“This Is What You Came For” is a song by Scottish DJ and record producer Calvin Harris, featuring English singer Rihanna. It was released on 29 April 2016, through Columbia Records and Westbury Road. The song was written by Harris and its producer Naughty Boy, with additional writing from Rihanna, Kilofer Armer and Tjay Dearden. It serves as the lead single from Harris’ fourth studio album, Motion (2014). “This Is What You Came For” is a dance-pop track and contains a Disclosure-influenced synth-pop production. Lyrically, it is about an unforgettable night out with a lover.

The single received mixed reviews from music critics; some praised the production and composition, while others criticised its lyrical content. The song reached number one in several countries including Australia, Canada, France, Ireland and the United Kingdom; it also peaked at number three on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. Elsewhere, “This Is What You Came For” peaked at number two on the Mainstream Top 40 airplay chart. An accompanying music video for the track was released on 3 June 2016; it stars Harris’ then-girlfriend Taylor Swift as a Femme fatale disguised as a waitress. Swift’s cameo caused much Internet discussion due to her then-recent high-profile breakup with Calvin Harris.

The Chainsmokers- Closer

The Chainsmokers are an American DJ duo consisting of Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall. They rose to fame with their 2014 song “#Selfie”, which became a top twenty single in several countries. Their debut album, Memories…Do Not Open, was released on April 7, 2017. The duo has won two Grammy Awards and four American Music Awards.

“Closer” is a song by The Chainsmokers, featuring American singer Halsey. It was released on July 29, 2016, as the lead single from The Chainsmokers’ debut studio album, Memories… Do Not Open (2017). The song is about a couple who are “close” to each other in a physical sense, but emotionally they are “far away”.

The song debuted at number two on the US Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at number one, giving The Chainsmokers their first US number-one single and Halsey her second. It became The Chainsmokers’ first UK number-one single. “Closer” also became the most streamed song on Spotify in the United States and the United Kingdom as of January 2017. Internationally, it topped the charts in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and many European countries including France, Germany and Sweden.

Marshmello- Alone

The American electronic producer and DJ, Marshmello, born Christopher Comstock, first made waves in the scene with his remix of Jack Ü and Justin Bieber’s “Where Are Ü Now”. His rework propelled him into the spotlight and since then he has collaborated with some of the biggest names in dance music including Khalid, Selena Gomez, Logic and Anne-Marie.

While he is known for his bright persona and unique performances (he is one of the only DJs to perform completely masked), his music speaks for itself. His debut album, Joytime, was released in 2016 and reached #5 on the US Dance/Electronic Albums chart. In 2017 he released “Silence” featuring Khalid which quickly reached #1 on the US Dance charts.

But it is his track “Alone” that takes the cake as one of the best electronic dance tracks of all time. The single was released in May of 2017 and quickly reached #1 on Spotify’s Global Viral 50 chart. The song has a catchy melody that is perfectly paired with Marshmello’s signature production style. The track is also notable for its use of auto-tune which adds a unique element to an already killer song.

Avicii- Wake Me Up

At just 26 years old, Avicii was one of the most successful DJs in the world. His 2013 hit Wake Me Up was a global phenomenon, topping charts in dozens of countries. The track earned Avicii a Grammy nomination, and its success cemented his place as one of the top EDM artists of all time.

Zedd- The Middle

As one of the most popular songs of 2018, “The Middle” by Zedd, Maren Morris and Grey, was a mainstay on dance floors and radio stations around the world. The track was produced by Zedd and features vocals from Maren Morris. “The Middle” is a beautiful example of how EDM can appeal to a mainstream audience while still retaining its underground roots.

1. “Language” is a song by American electronic music producer Porter Robinson. It was released on April 10, 2012 as the lead single from his debut studio album, Worlds (2014).
2. “Language” peaked at number 5 on the Billboard Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart and at number 19 on the UK Singles Chart.
3. The song was nominated for Best Dance Recording at the 56th Grammy Awards.
4. Robinson has said that “Language” was inspired by his experience attending Japanese anime conventions and attempting to socialize with people who share his interests.
5. “Language” is an uptempo electro house song with a 128 beats per minute.
6. The song’s lyrics are written in Japanese and English, and its title refers to the use of internet slang among young people in Japan.
7. “Language” received positive reviews from music critics, who praised its production and Robinson’s vocal performance.
8. The song was a commercial success, charting in several countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada.

Skrillex- Bangarang

Skrillex’s “Bangarang” is a classic electronic dance music track that is sure to get any party started. The track was released in 2012 and instantly became a hit with EDM fans.
