The Barber of Seville by Gioachino Rossini

The Barber of Seville, or Il barbiere di Siviglia, is an opera buffa in two acts by Gioachino Rossini with a libretto by Cesare Sterbini. The libretto was based on Pierre Beaumarchais’s comedy play, Le Barbier de Séville (1775). Rossini wrote The Barber of Seville in 1816, and it was first performed in Rome on 20 February 1816.

The plot revolves around the village of Seville, where the cantankerous Dr. Bartolo attempts to thwart the marriage of his ward Rosina to the dashing young Count Almaviva. Supported by his loyal barber Figaro, Almaviva sets out to win Rosina’s heart – and hand – in marriage. Filled with lighthearted wit and some of opera’s most recognizable tunes, The Barber of Seville is truly a comedic masterpiece.

La Bohème by Giacomo Puccini

One of the most popular and well-known operas of all time, La Bohème tells the story of a group of young bohemians in Paris and their hopes, dreams, and heartbreaks. Though it can be bittersweet at times, La Bohème is ultimately an uplifting story about the power of love. With its beautiful melodies and passionate characters, La Bohème is sure to fill you with hope and happiness.

Carmen by Georges Bizet

Carmen is one of the most popular operas of all time, and it is easy to see why. The music is catchy and accessible, even to those who are not opera fans. The story is full of passion and drama, and the characters are complex and interesting. There are many great recordings of Carmen, but one that is particularly uplifting is the 1995 recording by French conductor Michel Plasson. This recording features some of the world’s best singers, including Spanish soprano Montserrat Caballé as Carmen. If you’re looking for an uplifting opera to listen to today, Carmen is a great choice.

Don Giovanni by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Don Giovanni is one of the most popular operas of all time, and for good reason. It tells the story of a womanizing nobleman who ultimately meets his demise. The music is lively and uplifting, making it a great choice for any opera lover.

The Marriage of Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

The Marriage of Figaro is a comedic opera by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. It tells the story of Count Almaviva’s attempts to woo the beautiful Susanna, who is already betrothed to the Count’s young page, Figaro.

The opera is packed with memorable tunes, from the playful “Non so piu cosa son” to the exquisite “Dove sono i bei momenti”. The music is both light-hearted and moving, and it provides a perfect counterpoint to the often-serious operatic form.

If you’re looking for some uplifting opera music to listen to today, we highly recommend The Marriage of Figaro.

Turandot by Giacomo Puccini

The three-act opera tells the story of the Chinese princess Turandot, who has sworn to kill any man who attempts to marry her. She meets her match in the form of the prince Calaf, who falls in love with her at first sight. Despite the danger, he declares his intention to win her hand, setting off a series of events that leads to tragedy.

Puccini’s score is among the most complicated and demanding in all of opera. It calls for a large orchestra and chorus, as well as a number of soloists with exceptional vocal range and power. The music is highly emotive, ranging from delicate moments of beauty to explosive outbursts of passion.

Despite its difficulty, Turandot is one of the most popular operas in the repertoire, and its themes of love, loss, and redemption continue to resonate with modern audiences. If you’re looking for something uplifting to listen to today, this opera is a perfect choice.
