About the artist

Mark Ronson is an English musician, DJ, singer, songwriter, and record producer. Although his debut album Here Comes the Fuzz (2003) failed to make an impact on the charts, his second album Version (2007), reached number two in the UK and included three top 10 singles. Since then, Ronson has achieved commercial success with his third album Record Collection (2010), which peaked at number two in the UK. His fourth album, Uptown Special (2015), reached number one in the UK and the US; it featured the lead single “Uptown Funk,” which topped many year-end charts worldwide, becoming one of the best-selling singles of all time.

Ronson has won Record of the Year twice, in 2008 as a producer and in 2016 as a performing artist. He has also received nominations for Grammy Awards, Brit Awards, Q Awards, NME Awards, and International Dance Music Awards. In 2014 he was nominated for an Academy Award for his work on original song “Shallow” from the film The Hangover Part III.

RCA Records released the song as the album’s lead single on 10 November 2014. Jeff Bhasker assisted the artists in co-writing and co-producing the track, with additional writing from Philip Lawrence. This is a funk song in the key of Dâ™­ major with a time signature of 44 and a moderate tempo of 115 beats per minute. The song’s lyrics departing from Mars’ previous songs contain numerous references to various cities including Los Angeles and New York City.

Upon its release, “Uptown Funk” became an international commercial success, peaked at number one in fourteen countries including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom as well as the United States. Its music video was shot by director Cameron Duddy and features Mars and his band performing choreographed dance routines throughout several sessions in Los Angeles. The song won two Grammy Awards for Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group and Record of the Year. In 2015 it was ranked as the seventh most frequently streamed song on Spotify globally.
