The date has been set for the Broadway debut of the musical We Will Rock You. The show, which is based on the music of the rock band Queen, will begin previews on March 8, 2013 at the Marquis Theatre.

The plot

The musical We Will Rock You is set in the future where a global supercomputer named “Consumer Product Protection Association” or “CPPA” has forbidden rock music. Anyone found wearing ripped jeans, leather jackets or with long hair faces execution. In a small village outside London, a group of young people rebel against the status quo. They form a band and start playing rock music in secret. The story follows their journey as they discover their true identity, overthrow the CPPA and save rock n’ roll.

The music

The musical covers the story of a group of Bohemians who struggle to restore the free thinking spirit of rock in a world where computer generated music has brainwashed the masses. The original score was written by Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor, with additional contributions from Ben Elton.

The cast

The cast of the Tony Award-nominated musical We Will Rock You is set to make its Broadway debut on November 8, at the Winter Garden Theatre. Based on the music of British rock band Queen, the show has been a hit in London’s West End, where it has been running since 2002.
