The 52nd Annual Country Music Association Awards were held on November 8, 2018, at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. The show was hosted by Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley. The complete list of winners is as follows:

Entertainer of the Year:

The 52nd annual Country Music Association Awards were handed out Wednesday night (Nov. 8), and to no one’s surprise, Miranda Lambert was a big winner. The event, hosted by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood, was held at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena and aired live on ABC. Lambert took home the prestigious entertainer of the year trophy, as well as album of the year for her record “Platinum.”

Carrie Underwood

Carrie Underwood was born on March 10, 1983 in Muskogee, Oklahoma, to Carole (Shatswell) and Steve Underwood. She has two older sisters, Shanna and Stephanie. When Carrie was four years old, her family moved to Checotah, Oklahoma where she grew up singing in church and at school functions. After high school graduation, Carrie enrolled at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma on a partial vocal scholarship. While attending Northeastern State University, Carrie worked as a freelance journalist for the local newspaper “The Cherokee Phoenix” and as a solo singer at the local Blue Room nightclub. In 2004, Carrie auditioned for “American Idol” (2002) in St. Louis. Although she landed a spot in the top 12 finalists of the show’s fourth season (2004), she almost gave up her place when her grandfather passed away shortly after the live show aired announcing the final dozen contestants who would be appearing on the show that season. She decided to stay with “Idol,” dedicated her performances to him for the rest of the season and eventually went on to win that year’s competition by generating more than 63 million votes from viewers nationwide over 13 weeks of competition – becoming one of only three people (Kelly Clarkson & Clay Aiken being the other two) to ever receive that many viewer votes on any season of “American Idol.” On May 23rd of 2006 Carrie was inducted into both The Grand Ole Opry and The Oklahoma Music Hall Of Fame making her one of only a handful artists who have ever received such high honors so early in their career.

Male Vocalist of the Year:

Chris Stapleton took home the Male Vocalist of the Year trophy for the second consecutive year at the 52nd Annual Country Music Association Awards. Stapleton has been on a hot streak lately, winning Male Vocalist of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards and the CMA Awards in 2016.

Blake Shelton

Blake Shelton is an American country music singer and television personality. In 2001, he made his debut with the single “Austin”. The lead-off single from his self-titled debut album, “Austin” spent five weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. The now Platinum-certified debut album also produced two more top 20 entries (“All Over Me” and “Ol’ Red”). Although the album was released on Giant Records Nashville, he was transferred to Warner Bros. Records Nashville after Giant closed

Album of the Year:

“The Weight of These Wings” by Miranda Lambert

A Sailor’s Guide to Earth – Sturgill Simpson

On his highly-anticipated third album, A Sailor’s Guide to Earth, Nashville singer-songwriter Sturgill Simpson broadens his musical horizons and embraces classic pop, soul and R&B idioms while maintaining his status as one of country music’s most original artists. The result is a stunning, deeply personal record that finds Simpson struggling to reconcile his responsibilities as a new father with the demands of life on the road. With assistance from producer Brendan Benson and the Dap-Kings horn section, Simpson has crafted an ambitious work that effortlessly mixes elements of country, rock & roll and soul into a rich, organic whole. Highlights include the swelling opener “Welcome to Earth (Pollywog),” the horn-driven “Keep It Between the Lines” and the Emmylou Harris duet “Oh Sarah.” Still, it’s on slower numbers like “Brace for Impact (Live a Little)” and “Sea Stories” where Simpson really shines, revealing a deep understanding of what it means to be a man adrift in an ever-changing world. A masterful record from one of music’s most fascinating characters, A Sailor’s Guide to Earth cements Sturgill Simpson’s reputation as one of country music’s most vital voices.
