The Black Keys are an American rock band formed in Akron, Ohio, in 2001. The group consists of Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney. “Power” is a song by American hip hop recording artist Kanye West, released as the lead single from his fifth studio album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (2010). The song features additional vocals by R&B singer Dwele and is co-produced by West and record producer Symbolyc One. “Power” was released to critical acclaim, with some considering it among West’s best work. The single peaked at number 22 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and topped the US Hot Rap Songs chart, becoming West’s ninth number-one single on the latter.

“E.T.” – Katy Perry

“E.T.” is a song by American singer Katy Perry from her third studio album, Teenage Dream (2010). The song was written by Perry, alongside Dr. Luke, Max Martin, and Bonnie McKee, and produced by the latter three. It was released as the album’s second single on February 16, 2011. “E.T.” is a midtempo synthpop and progressive house track that contains elements of rock in its composition and instrumentation. The song had subtle influences of new age and illbient music before its release. Lyrically, the song speaks of falling in love with a stranger who is out of this world.

Critical reception for “E.T.” was generally positive; many critics praised its composition and Perry’s vocal performance while others criticized it for being similar to other songs on Teenage Dream. “E.T.” peaked at number one on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, becoming Perry’s third single to do so after “California Gurls” (2010) and “Firework” (2010). It also charted within the top five in several other countries including Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Ireland while also reaching the top 10 in Norway and Sweden. A remixed version featuring rapper Kanye West was released on April 5, 2011; this version peaked at number two on the Hot 100 chart while making Perry only one of four female artists in history to achieve multiple Hot 100 number-one singles with three songs (“California Gurls”, “Firework”, both featuring West) off a single album (Teenage Dream). An accompanying music video for the remix featured footage from an alien invasion dress rehearsal held by paranoid Los Angeles civilians amidst fears of an impending extraterrestrial attack foretold by increased UFO sightings around Los Angeles which has gotten mixed reviews from critics with some enjoying its concept while others found it eccentric or campy but praised West’s cameo appearance earning him a MTV Video Music Award nomination for Best Hip-Hop Video giving but ultimately losing to Tyler The Creator forhis work on Tyler The Creator’s “Yonkers”.

“6 Foot 7 Foot” – Lil Wayne

Released in December 2010, “6 Foot 7 Foot” was the first single from Lil Wayne’s ninth studio album, Tha Carter IV. The track features fellow rapper Cory Gunz and was produced by Swizz Beatz. It peaked at number 4 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

“Fireball” – Pitbull

“Fireball” is a song recorded by American rapper Pitbull for his sixth studio album, Global Warming (2012). The song features and was co-written by American singer John Ryan, while production was handled by Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Tony Junior and Afrojack. It was released on June 21, 2011 as the lead single from the album. Outside of North America, “Fireball” peaked within the top ten of the charts in Denmark and the United Kingdom. In the United States, “Fireball” peaked at number 42 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

“All About That Bass” – Meghan Trainor

“All About That Bass” is a song recorded by American singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor for her debut EP and first studio album, Title (2015). The song was written by Trainor and Kevin Kadish, and produced by Kadish. “All About That Bass” was released by Epic Records on June 30, 2014 as a single in the United States, and on October 27, 2014 as the second single from Title in the United Kingdom. The song topped the charts in 58 countries, including the United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. In the US, it spent eight weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 and became both Trainor’s and Kadish’s first number one on that chart; it remains Kadish’s only number one as a producer. Globally, it was 2015’s seventh best-selling digital single with 26 millionsold that year. A live performance of “All About That Bass” during The Ellen DeGeneres Show went viral on YouTube.

The song has been credited with helping to end body shaming and promoting body confidence; Trainor herself has said she wrote it in response to body shaming she received online. The music video garnered generally positive reviews from contemporary critics lauding its use of pastel colors and vintage clothing. Critics also praised Trainor’s abandoning of skinny models for plus-sized models in order to showcase diversity within beauty standards. It won the 2015 MTV Video Music Award for Best Female Video and was nominated for three Grammy Awards: Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance.

“Anaconda” – Nicki Minaj

“Anaconda” is a song by American rapper and singer Nicki Minaj, from her third studio album, The Pinkprint (2014). It was released on August 4, 2014 by Young Money Entertainment, Cash Money Records, and Republic Records as the second single from the album. The song was produced by Polow da Don, Dr. Luke and Cirkut. “Anaconda” peaked at number two on the US Billboard Hot 100 due to strong digital download sales, which were spurred by a controversial music video that premiered on August 19, 2014 and was subsequently deleted from Minaj’s Vevo account. The song also peaked within the top ten in Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom.
