Walker was born in Brooklyn, New York, on December 24, 1962, the son of Ruby Dennis and Robert Walker. He was raised in a Pentecostal household. He received his early education from Allendale Elementary School and later attended Erasmus Hall High School. After high school, he enrolled at Brooklyn College where he studied music.
