What is Electronic Dance Music?

Electronic dance music, also known as EDM, is a category of music that encompasses a wide variety of subgenres. While the term “EDM” is often used interchangeably with “electronic music,” there is a distinction to be made between the two: electronic music covers a much wider range of subgenres and artists than EDM does.

EDM is characterized by its heavy use of electronic instruments and computer-generated sounds, as well as by its fast tempo and often repetitive or catchy melody. Common subgenres within EDM include house, techno, dubstep, trance, drum and bass, and synthpop.

Some of the most popular EDM artists include Swedish House Mafia, Avicii, Tiesto, Skrillex, Calvin Harris, David Guetta, and Deadmau5.
