Introduction

Techno music is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in Detroit, Michigan in the United States in the 1980s. The first techno tracks were produced by Miles Davis and his band of innovators which included Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, and Tony Williams. These tracks were heavily influential to the development of techno, and they are still considered some of the best techno tracks ever recorded.

The sound of techno is typically characterized by a four-on-the-floor kick drum beat, synthesizer melodies, and sequences. Techno music is often repetitive and minimalist in nature. It is also usually produced using only a computer and electronic musical instruments.

There are many different subgenres of techno music, but the five computer techno music producers listed below are considered to be among the best in the genre. Aphex Twin

Richard David James (born 18 August 1971), better known by his stage name Aphex Twin, is an English musician. He is best known for his influential and idiosyncratic work in electronic music styles such as techno and ambient during the 1990s. He is also the co-founder of Rephlex Records with Grant Wilson-Claridge.

James was born in Limerick, Ireland. His mother was Welsh and his father was of Irish descent. DurinTwin moved to Cornwall, UK at age seven to live with relatives, then back to England four years later when his parents divorced. In Cornwall he supported himself as a DJ and producer under various aliases including DJ Pierre, Daft Punk, and Kraftwerk 2. In 1991 he co-founded Rephlex Records with Grant Wilson-Claridge.

James began releasing acid techno tracks under various pseudonyms in the early 1990s on white label vinyls. These tracks were later collected on the 1995 compilation Analogue Bubblebath 3. In 1994 he released selected tracks under his own name on The Richard D James Albumsixth album), referred to colloquially as “the Drukqs album”. The single “Come to Daddy” became one of his most recognizable works, reaching number 27 on the UK Singles Chart and being included in The Guardian’s “1000 Songs Everyone Must Hear” list.

Autechre

If you’re a fan of techno music, then you’ve undoubtedly heard of Autechre. This English duo is one of the most prolific and influential producers of techno music in the world. Over the course of their career, they’ve released 13 albums, countless EPs and singles, and have been remixed by some of the biggest names in the business. Their music is complex, often challenging, and always Innovative. If you’re looking for something outside the box, then Autechre is definitely worth checking out.

Boards of Canada

Boards of Canada is a Scottish electronic music duo consisting of brothers Michael Sandison and Marcus Eoin. Active in the late 1990s and early 2000s, they Boards of Canada released several works on Warp Records, including the albums Music Has the Right to Children, Geogaddi, and The Campfire Headphase.

Their sound combines elements of IDM and ambient music with influences from vintage influences such as public service announcements, Sunday school records, and clips from old educational films. Their work often features nostalgic themes and pastoral imagery.

Boards of Canada’s music has been used in a number of films and television programs, most notably in the opening credits of the 2003 sci-fi film The Matrix Reloaded.

Squarepusher

Squarepusher, aka Tom Jenkinson, is a British producer and one of the most innovative and prolific techno artists working today. His music is a unique blend of IDM, breakbeat, jazz, and dub that is both cerebral and danceable. He has released over a dozen albums on the legendary Warp Records label, and his live shows are legendary for their energy and intensity.
