Nirvana- Smells Like Teen Spirit

Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” was an instant classic when it was released in 1991, and the music video only added to its legend. The video is a perfect example of the grunge aesthetic, with its washed-out colors and footage of the band playing in an empty high school gym. It’s a simple video, but it perfectly captures the raw energy of Nirvana’s music.

Pearl Jam- Jeremy

Video Description: The “Jeremy” video was directed by Mark Pellington and features live footage of Pearl Jam performing the song, interspersed with news footage and original animation. The video is notable for its depiction of a school shooting, which was inspired by the true story of 16-year-old Jeremy Delle, who shot himself in front of his English class at Richardson High School in Richardson, Texas on January 8, 1991.

The video was nominated for four MTV Video Music Awards in 1992, winning three of them, including Best Group Video. In 2003, Rolling Stone placed the video at number 45 on their list of the 100 Greatest Music Videos of All Time.

They were known for their dark and heavy sound, as well as their depressing lyrics which often dealt with drug addiction and depression. Despite this, their music was incredibly popular and they had a number of hit songs.

“Would?” is one of Alice in Chains’ most popular songs, and the music video is just as iconic. The video features the band performing in a dark room with footage of them intercut throughout. The video is simple, but it perfectly matches the tone of the song.

Soundgarden- Black Hole Sun

Black Hole Sun is a song by American rock band Soundgarden. Featuring heavy use of distorted guitars, the song was written by frontman Chris Cornell, who produced it with the band’s Kim Thayil. The song, released as the third single from the band’s fourth studio album Superunknown (1994), entered the Billboard Hot 100 at number nine in 1994 and spent seven weeks on the chart. Despite peaking at number three on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and number ten on its Modern Rock Tracks chart, it was not released to rock radio stations as a single. The single’s music video, directed by Peter Christopherson, won a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Video in 1995.
