WSM-FM

WSM-FM (94.9 MHz “Nash FM 94.9”) is a commercial FM radio station in Nashville, Tennessee. It is owned by Cumulus Media and airs a country music radio format. The studios and offices are on Elm Hill Pike in Nashville’s Music Row district.

The transmitter is off Ashland City Highway in Hermitage, Tennessee, amid other broadcast towers. WSM-FM broadcasts in the HD Radio hybrid format. Its HD2 subchannel carries a classic country format branded as “Willie’s Place.”

The station first signed on the air on January 1, 1961, as WDMF-FM, simulcasting the middle of the road music of its AM sister station 1230 WDMI (now WPRT). The station was powered at only 3,000 watts, a fraction of the power most FM stations use today.

In 1968, both stations were acquired by Clark Duncan’s Middle Tennessee Network which also owned WSIX-AM-FM (now WKDF). AM 1230 was split off from its FM sister and became an easy listening music outlet as WKDA “Kandy Radio.” The call letters were changed to WWKX in 1977 and to WWTN a year later. Meanwhile, 94.9 switched to beautiful music under monikers such as “Stereo 94” and “EZ Listening 94.”

In 1987, when Duncan sold his radio stations to George Gillett’s Gillett Broadcasting for $40 million, WWTN became an adult contemporary outlet while 94.9 kept its beautiful music sound but became known as WMXU “Max 94.”

WBKR

WBKR is an American country music radio station broadcasting on 92.5 FM in Owensboro, Kentucky. It is owned by Townsquare Media and its studios are located in the Evansville, Indiana radio market.

WKDQ

WKDQ is a country music radio station in Evansville, Indiana. It is owned by iHeartMedia and broadcasts at 96.5 MHz on the FM dial. The station has been on the air since 1968 and plays mostly contemporary country music. WKDQ is one of Evansville’s most popular radio stations, and it has been nominated for numerous awards, including the Academy of Country Music’s “Station of the Year” award.
