In a genre that’s historically been dominated by men, these five female country music stars are making a name for themselves. If you’re a fan of country music, you need to know these ladies!

Carrie Underwood

Carrie Underwood is a force to be reckoned with in country music. The Oklahoma native got her start after winning American Idol in 2005, and she has since gone on to have an incredibly successful career. She has released five studio albums, all of which have been certified platinum or higher, and she has won numerous awards, including seven Grammy Awards. Her most recent album, Storyteller, was released in 2015 and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Miranda Lambert

Miranda Lambert is a three-time Grammy winner and one of the most successful female artists in country music history. Born in Lindale, Texas, Lambert began writing songs at the age of 16 and released her debut album in 2005. She has since released eight more albums, each of which has been certified Platinum or higher by the Recording Industry Association of America. Lambert is also a member of the Pistol Annies, a country music trio that has released three albums. In 2019, Lambert won the Academy of Country Music Award for Entertainer of the Year, becoming the first woman in history to win the award twice.

Maren Morris

Maren Morris is a country music singer-songwriter from Arlington, Texas. Active since 2005, she has released four studio albums and one live album. Her fourth studio album, Girl, was released in 2019 and debuted at number one on the Billboard Country Albums chart. In 2016, Morris was nominated for four Grammy Awards, winning the award for Best Country Solo Performance for her single “My Church.” She has also won the CMA Award for New Artist of the Year and the ACM Award for New Female Vocalist of the Year.

Kacey Musgraves

Kacey Musgraves is a singer and songwriter from Golden, Texas. Her debut album, Same Trailer Different Park, was released in 2013 to critical acclaim. Musgraves won the Grammy Award for Best Country Album for the album and also received praise for her songwriting. She has released two more albums, Pageant Material in 2015 and A Very Kacey Christmas in 2016. Musgraves is known for her country-pop sound and her progressive country lyrics.

Ashley McBryde

Ashley McBryde may be a fresh face in country music, but she’s already making waves with her debut album, Girl Going Nowhere. The Arkansas native draws on her small-town roots to create music that is down-to-earth and relatable, with a dash of Southern charm. Her single “A Little Dive Bar in Dahlonega” has been praised by critics and fans alike, and she is quickly becoming one of country music’s most promising new stars.
