History of the Folk Music Center

The Folk Music Center in Claremont, California is the brainchild of Suzy and Bill Sloan. The two were avid music fans and had been attending folk festivals around the country for years. In 1963 they decided to open a shop specializing in folk music instruments and records. The store quickly became a gathering place for musicians and music lovers alike.

In 1965 the Sloans decided to start hosting live music events. These events proved to be very popular and helped to put the Folk Music Center on the map. Over the years the Folk Music Center has hosted many famous musicians including Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Pete Seeger, and Emmylou Harris.

Today the Folk Music Center is still run by the Sloans and is considered one of the premier folk music venues in the country. If you’re ever in Claremont, be sure to stop by and check it out!
