The lead single from Malkmus’ latest album with his backing band the Jicks, “No Cities to Love” is a classic slice of guitar-driven indie rock. Malkmus’ lyrics are as witty and sharp as ever, making this one of the best tracks of the year so far.

“I Wanna Be Sedated” by Parquet Courts
The punk-influenced Brooklyn four-piece known as Parquet Courts have been one of the most consistent and enjoyable bands around over the last few years. They returned earlier this year with Wide Awake!, an album that finds them expanding their sound while still staying true to their punk roots. “I Wanna Be Sedated” is one of the standouts from the album, a raucous and catchy track that will get stuck in your head for days on end.

“Rollin With The Winners” by Pavement
Although they disbanded back in 1999, Pavement remain one of the most influential bands in indie rock. They recently announced a reunion tour, which has been hugely successful so far. To tide fans over until they can see the band live again, Pavement released a new greatest hits album called The Secret History Vol. 1 earlier this year. “Rollin With The Winners” is one of two new tracks on the album, and it sounds like Pavement never left – which is definitely a good thing.”
