Additionally, there are several samples of voices throughout the song, including a pitch-shifted male voice that says “Nobody gets me like you do”, which is pitch-shifted to sound like a female voice.

The lyrics of “Latch” revolve around themes of seduction and unrequited love, with Smith singing about being unable to control his emotions towards an unspecified person. In May 2014, the song topped the Dance Club Songs and Rhythmic songs in the United States, making it Harris’ first US number one on both charts.

Avicii – “Wake Me Up”

“Wake Me Up” is a song by Swedish DJ and record producer Avicii, released as the lead single from his debut studio album True, released on CD and cassette by PRMD Music and Universal Music Group’s Island Records on 17 June 2013. The song was written by Avicii, Mike Einziger of American rock band Incubus, and Ali Tamposi. It features vocals by American soul singer Aloe Blacc. The single peaked at number one in more than 20 countries including the United Kingdom, where it became the fastest-selling dance track of all time selling 490,000 copies in its first week.

“Wake Me Up” is a dance-pop, electronic dance and folktronica song with house influences. The track features cancer survivor Aloe Blacc singing about waking up feeling alive against an electronic backdrop created by Avicii that received a mixed response from critics; some complimented its mixing of genres while others criticise its attempt to “mimic folk music with synthesizers”. The song was written by Andrew Taggart, Ashley Frangipane, Shaun Frank and Isaac Slade, with the production handled by the Chainsmokers. Musically, “Closer” is an EDM song with a “retro feel” that contains influence from several genres such as synth-pop and new wave. Halsey’s vocals feature “breathiness” with some raspiness that are complemented by sound effects like whistles and heavy bass. Lyrically, it contains a theme of unrequited love and nostalgia.

The song was first released in the US on July 28, 2016, before being released worldwide the next day. Upon release, “Closer” became both the Chainsmokers’ and Halsey’s first number one single on the US Billboard Hot 100.
