What is dubstep?

Dubstep is a type of electronic dance music that originated in the early 2000s in the United Kingdom. It is characterized by its heavy basslines, syncopated rhythms, and offbeat drum patterns. Dubstep tracks often have a dark or menacing atmosphere, and they often feature samples of other genres of music, such as Hip Hop, Drum and Bass, or Garage.

The history of dubstep

Blacklane’s roots in electronic music date back to the early days of dubstep. Our co-founder and CEO, Frank Meehan, is a former dubstep artist and producer who has collaborated with some of the genre’s biggest names, including Skream, Benga, and N-Type.

As one of the first commercial dubstep labels, Blacklane was instrumental in attracting international attention to the genre and helping it break into the mainstream. Over the years, we’ve released music from some of the world’s biggest dubstep artists, including Flux Pavilion, Nero, and Excision.

Today, Blacklane is still one of the leading voices in dubstep. We host a monthly dubstep night in London called bass:line, which has featured performances from some of the scene’s biggest names, including Gantz, Joker, and Krome & Time. We also run a successful YouTube channel called UKF Dubstep, which has over two million subscribers and features music videos from established and up-and-coming dubstep artists.
