A group of people in Waldorf, Maryland are suing the local Thai restaurant, Thai Palace, over the music they play. The group alleges that the Thai music the restaurant plays is “unreasonably loud” and “funk-based.”

The group is asking for $500,000 in damages, saying that the restaurant has caused them “emotional distress” and has made it difficult for them to enjoy their meals.

Thai Palace has not commented on the lawsuit.

The lawsuit was filed by James Taylor, who is the owner of the copyright to the song “Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine.” He alleges that the restaurant played the song without obtaining a license, and is seeking statutory damages of up to $150,000.

This is not the first time that the Thai Palace has been accused of playing unlicensed music. In 2017, it was sued by the estate of Marvin Gaye over the alleged unauthorized use of the song “Let’s Get It On.” That case is still pending.

Taylor alleges that Thai Palace has been playing the song without permission and is seeking damages.
