“No Longer Slaves” by Bethel Music

“No Longer Slaves” is a song performed by American worship group Bethel Music. The song was released as a single on July 15, 2016, and is included on Bethel Music’s eleventh live album, Have It All (2016). The song peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot Christian Songs chart in February 2017.

The song was written by Brian Johnson, Joel Case and Jonathan David Helser. In an interview with New Release Today, Johnson said that the song was inspired by his experience of overcoming addiction and finding freedom in Christ. He explained:

“‘No Longer Slaves’ is really an anthem for anyone who’s ever been in bondage of any kind … It could be addiction, it could be depression, it could be negative patterns in your family … anything that keeps you from really living the life God has for you.”

In the same interview, Helser explained that the song is “a declaration of our identity in Christ”. He continued:

“We are not slaves to sin, we are not slaves to our past, we are not slaves to our circumstances … ‘No Longer Slaves’ is just a cry of triumph over all those things.”
